Hello

03.03.09

I hope you are enjoying your visit to Sing-Share! I thought I'd start the blog off with an introduction to the link box you can find on your right hand side.

I put a few of my personal favourites in here and these will change from time to time, but thought I'd give you a little background as to what they are.

The Word Online Music Magazine

I have been buying on and off The Word magazine when I wander off for a trip to Glasgow and specifically Borders! I very rarely buy any form of magazine but this one draws me in. I have been introduced to many a new artist via their free cd on the cover, along with enjoying new tracks by many artists I already know.

It is a British Magazine so if you in the States I'm sorry if you can't get your hands on a copy! I discovered the online site today and saw it was packed with podcasts and reviews. Thought I'd share that one with you.

Wolfgang's Vault

I have enjoyed going through this little treasure trove and spent many a golden moment over quite a few years now. It is updated regularly and stuffed with vintage footage.

Stephen Law's Blogspot

It was a few years back that I got interested in Philosophy - because I was doing a little work for someone studying Discourse Theory... I took Stephen Law's book The Philosophy Gym out of my local library and really loved it. He speaks on such a wonderful, easy to understand level and makes things exciting at the same time. I found his blog online today and loved his titles, I'll be digging in a lot myself. Maybe we can even open up a few for discussion on our forum ... Stephen Law is now Editor of the Royal Institute of Philosophy, journal THINK. He started off his career path as a postman... I guess all those early mornings in the sunshine gave him plenty of time to reflect.

Last.fm

One of my very favourite online community music sites - I have been a member here for several years. You can search for favourite artists and set up a radio station starting with them and you get taken on a mystery tour of other artists who might sound similar! I love this and have never been disappointed with what they serve up! This is how I got to hear people like Stephen Merritt and Mark Lanegan - I have since seen Mark in concert my way with Isobel Campbell, and bought many of his cd's - I should say most! He's been part of many rock bands including Screaming Trees

You can network with others on Last.fm, build a widget and scrobble your listening habits for others to hear as you play it, on Facebook and other networking groups... find people with similar tastes based on your listening habits, join groups, view videos or simply listen on your own. You can find out more about the artist you are listening to, listen to whole tracks of specific artists, download stuff, find out about local concerts/gigs. It's not just rock - it's everything. Try it! You can be a free member and get a huge variety of things to keep you busy. That's if you have time over and above discussing subjects on our website, joining our challenge, singing, recording and listening to each other!

Anyway - that's me for now... hope you enjoy these links.

Thanks for reading!
Janet
