All The World's A Stage - Bruce

When my mom was a kid, the only way you could entertain the world was to be discovered by a movie mogul, a theater impresario or the head of a radio network. When I was a kid, you could add television network executive to that list. But, no matter how many outlets there were, you still had to rely on someone else for your opportunity.
Today, the world has changed dramatically. No longer is the artist at the mercy of someone else's judgment. If your sole desire is to let your creativity loose, you have the tools to both create and to make your creation available for the world's consumption. We live in a great time.
Debbie Gibson is not often thought of as a music pioneer. But only a few decades ago, Debbie became the youngest female artist ever to write, produce, and perform on a Billboard number one single. She recorded her music at home before getting a deal with a major label. In the less than 30 years since she accomplished this feat, audio recording has taken an enormous leap forward to the point where a person can get professional level results at home with a computer and a few quality tools. But, more importantly, the major label is no longer required.
Once, labels controlled the means of distribution. No matter how good your music, you could not get it heard without the help of a major label. Today, you can write, record, create the artwork and even print the CD itself at home. You can skip the CD portion entirely and post your music for downloading on the web. There are an almost unending list of sites for you to promote your music. And you can do all of this with a minuscule investment.
In fact, the notion of distributing and promoting your music online is almost old hat. Film and Video production and distribution have now moved into the area of do it yourself. Today there are incredibly powerful video cameras and video editing tools available to the average consumer and, just like the musician, filmmakers and videographers can skip the studio system and the television networks and market their productions directly to consumers on the web. And, just like Atlantic Records did with Debbie Gibson, major studios are signing talents like the creators of South Park and It's Always Sunny In Philadelphia based on their home brewed productions.
Perhaps, most importantly, the new age offers a chance for everyone to unleash their inner creative self. Even if you have no desire to be a motion picture or recording star, you can sing, write, dance or act and share it with the world. Some folks will suggest that this is not a good thing. That some people should just watch and not be watched but I would disagree. We all have a creative inner self and sharing that with others, who choose to admire our openness rather than judge our talent, is one sure way to develop friendships, closeness and respect for every one. Not every one can sing like Frank Sinatra or Bono. But everyone has a song inside them that should be heard.
Sing-Share is here to offer a home for everyone who wants to be part of this new creative community. Share your music, your videos, your art, your writing and your opinions with us. If you've posted a video on one site and a song on another and your photography on a third, become part of our community and share it all with us. If you're a musician who has written a song and is looking for other talented musicians or a singer to work with, we'll be building a community of professional musicians right here. Consider us the equivalent of hanging at the local music store and putting up flyers. If you're eager to sing or write or act or draw, but are not sure where you can do that, we'll give you tips on how and where you can acquire the tools. If you don't think you're good enough, we assure you that you are. We won't judge you. That's not why we're here. We are here to help you be heard.
