New Features on Sing-Share - 15th September, 2009
Hi!
Hopefully many of you will have seen our new Old Songs and Singers thread being run by our very own ColonelMac. This is a super new resource for those who want to sing all the lost songs of early days - with the correct original verses that many reproductions lose over time. Rich (Col.) is willing to share with us hundreds of midis and piano roll recordings - we simply ask and he will deliver, then we sing, and we share!

Okay - today's news, ahhhh nothing really, except... wait for it... drum roll, hmmm, skin needs tightening that was more of a phht!
WE HAVE INSTANT CHAT!!!!!
Yes, that strange new thing at the bottom of the forum will allow you to have private conversations via instant messaging. You can now communicate in real time in the "chatbox" with one or several peeps at once! On top of that you can share youtube videos, either in private or shared chat and store shortcut favorite text sentences, like 'wotcha, howya doing?' 'do you come here often' and 'doh'... I might save some '!!!!'s' :)
HOW IT WORKSWhen you log on you should see this!
This is the new taskbar allowing you to access instant private chat and a chatroom where you can meet with others.

Okay, there's me! Now if you click on the user's name....
...you get a small profile of the user you are looking at and yes I can even talk to myself to test everything out.
Right... next... to talk to me, you have to "request chat!" See that link underneath my picture? Yeah, click that... or add me to your buddies
Moving on, the small word up the top left is the menu! Click on that and you get:

USERS - you've seen that in action
CHATS - I think this brings up your past conversations, like a history
CHATBOX - that's the mini chatroom we can all visit
MY SHORTCUTS - list of text, links and stuff you add, you have to upload and set these and I've mentioned them higher up on the page.
MY BUDDIES - :)
SETTINGS - allows you to change text color, time, status, etc
HELP - a short manual on how to use it all - better than me telling ya
CLOSE - shuts the menu down to task bar.
Heh, I just noticed the 'settings' on the taskbar sends you to the shortcuts - I can either edit this to say shortcuts or find out the proper link to settings but I think the shortcuts are something you will want more often.

Try Our New Arcade Section! - 24th April, 2009
We have added more than 40 games into an Arcade section that you can access from the blue menu on top of the Forum. We have word games, trivia games, sports games, role playing games, shooting games, memory games and casino games and new games will be added all the time. Of course, we still have a separate and quite challenging Quiz section which can be accessed separately in the Forum blue menu. Come play. Have fun.

IMPORTANT ANNOUNCEMENT - 26th March, 2009
Hello peeps! You've probably seen me around but not saying much or listening today ...
I have been trying to think of a way of keeping you all informed when something happens to the website outwith our control - we've had a couple of long stretches when the site was not available - these things happen - it's part of life, and the more we stretch things and add great new ventures, there are bound to be teething problems... even though it seemed a long time, and our patience can get frayed - I have to say - the engineers from the hosting company were onto it as soon as I contacted them, and always reassuring me of their best.
On the whole the site is working well and getting more interactive by the day - in fact - it's hard to drag myself away...
Because the challenges are an integral part of why we built this extended community area, I thought it might be a good idea to host a single page somewhere different so that I can update you when we lose touch. I have also added the playlist there - I cannot promise to have it as up to date as the one in the thread - it will depend on time as it has to be uploaded for every change. I hope it helps to reassure you of our continued commitment to one another.
Please bookmark this address now so that you have it to refer too. Many thanks for your patience once again.

With Singshot going away, any of you who have friends who still record there may want to invite them to join us here. The site closes down in 2 weeks.

ANSWERS TO YOUR QUESTIONS 1 - 11th March, 2009
Go to our NEWS page regularly for updates on changes we are making and for more answers to your questions. To read entire articles, click on the headline of each news story. You have a lot of choice over how to modify your experience at Sing-Share. Here are a few of them.
LOG IN TIME - When you first log in to Sing-Share, you are presented with a dialogue box that asks you how long you want to stay logged in. You can leave it set at the default, 60 minutes. If you do that, you will be logged out automatically after 60 minutes, even if you are in the middle of posting. You have the choice to change the 60 to any number you wish. Or, you can select "Always stay logged in," and you will not be logged out at any time during your session. If you do not see the dialogue box when you log in, follow this procedure. Log out, quit your browser, delete your cookies and then log back in.
PREVIEW - When posting, if you change any of the type settings or add bold or underline, click the PREVIEW button on the lower right to see how your post will appear. Then you can make any changes you wish before posting. The preview widow appears at the top of your post. It's easy to miss. We recommend keeping type changes to a minimum and using them to highlight where appropriate.
SITE NAVIGATION - If you click on any of the white buttons in the top menu, like FORUM INFO or NEWS, you are taken out of the forum and into the front pages. To get back to the forum you have several choices. You can merely click the BACK button in your browser. Or you can click on FORUM in the blue menu. Or you can click on any of the direct links (Music, Art, Discussion) in the SING-SHARE FORUM menu on the right. If you want to always end up back in the topic you were just posting in, see the hint below.
RETURN TO TOPICS - If you click on the PROFILE button and then MODIFY PROFILE and then LOOK AND LAYOUT, you will see an option "Return to topics after posting by default." Check the box next to that and save it by clicking CHANGE PROFILE at the bottom of the page. Now, after you post something, you will be returned to the topic.
Hope some of these tips help your experience here. We will post more in the days and weeks ahead.

Your PM Privacy - 8th March, 2009
Did you know that your "private" messages on some web sites are not really private? Owners of web communities have the ability to read your messages and, in some cases, might even empower other admins and site moderators to do the same. Sing-Share promises to never invade your privacy in this way. We have disabled this function in order to ensure that your PM's are read only by the person you intend them for. Of course, you should always use internet communication with caution and never send sensitive information in PM's.
Modify Your Experience - 7th March, 2009
You have a lot of control over how you experience Sing-Share. Go to Profile --> Modify Profile --> Look and Layout to select how you would like to experience the site. You also have a great many "doodads" (as Tracy says) for communicating. Though, for easier communication, we suggest that you limit your use of differing font sizes and types, glittery objects, smileys and the like, in particular on the Friendly Discussion boards. Have fun!
News Update: 6th March, 2009
A number of people are now gradually being invited to come and view the website for the purposes of signing up - please note not everything is functional - you may notice a link not added in the singing sites yet, that is deliberate and will be amended on launch.
Also, there is a time delay on sending repetitive pm's to ensure you are not spammed. I will look into this and see if we can bring the waiting time down a little.
